INTERVIEW with Madrow
Madrow is a music artist based in Israel. He is started his musical voyage and is trying to succeed at his own goals as an artist. Growing up Madrow discovered and listened to a variety of musicians and genres that have played an influential role in shaping his signature sound. Madrow seeks to offer something different and unique to the world by creating and performing original music that he can be proud of as his own.
- When and how did you get started producing music and do you have any formal training?
Madrow: I started creating music in early 2014, my friends exposed me to the dance music and since then there is an endless love for the genre.
- Where does the moniker Madrow come from?
Madrow: After much deliberation with the help of a very close friend of mine, Madrow is a combination of a few words. The roar of madness. Madrow (of course it can’t be like madroar, madrow is more catchy in my opinion)
- Who were your first and strongest musical influences?
Madrow: I will not lie, ”Blasterjaxx”, ”W&W”, ”Hardwell” were the reason why I felt in love with a big room house and the EDM scene.
The first big room track I heard was ”Puzzle” by Quintino and Blasterjaxx and for a moment I was so shocked. For me, a simple guy who listens to oriental music, and maybe a little psychedelic trance, the big room was something that renewed me a lot, in my life and my taste.
- What do you feel are the key elements people should be getting out of your music?
Madrow: Oriental music, Sweeping atmosphere and emotions.
- What do you think separates you from the crowd of producers emerging right now?
Madrow: My disease, (bloody tumor in the right eye called lymphangia) I have been fighting this disease since 4, and we have never found a solution, hope for the best because right now it is one of the biggest stones in my path in every sense of life. And of course my abilities, I’m not ashamed to say I know what I’m worth, but we all learn every day, and get better, each and every time.
- What is your process when composing a new song? Where do start, and what usually comes into your head first – the melody or the beat?
Madrow: First of all, a catchy melody, and especially integrating the oriental world into my music.
- What key ingredients do you always try and infuse into your music.
Madrow: Components like Kanun, Oud, and lots of other oriental tools. I’m still kind of looking for myself in this matter.
- Do you collaborate with other producers and artists, or do you prefer working alone?
Madrow: Of course! I have collaborations, with really amazing artists and really professionals! But I will not be ashamed to say that I am more intent on working in solos, to avoid disagreements or any kind of problems, me against the world HAHA.
- Do you only create and work in a studio environment, or do you also find time to perform live? And if so, which of these two do you ultimately enjoy more?
Madrow: Right now I’m kind of still developing my ”studio”, working from the bedroom haha, and actually I got a lot of time to perform, but as I said before I have a disease to win.
- Can you tell us something about your latest music release and where fans can find it?
Madrow: My original stuff can be found on all platforms. ”Middle East” is my first song. The track I’m most proud of and the first time I found out my passion. “Corona”, a funny story that track was started during the first quarantine in Israel. And the total time I worked on it was barely two hours. ‘El Jah’ which means ”Hell” in Arabic (aljahim). Of course I do not have to explain the elements that exist in it, oriental music, regarding the name of the song I actually have something very deep to add. I also finished this track in the beginning of COVID19, where I felt that we humans are currently witnessing history, but also to a hellish period where people have no bread at home to give to their children, and from that feeling the title ”El Jaham” came out.
- Do you have a personal favorite track in your catalog that has a specific backstory and/or message and meaning very special to you?
Madrow: ”Scorpions – Still Loving You. My late father ;(, I remember myself as a child in first grade, my father bought an original CD of the above album, and without knowing too much about the meaning of the lyrics, (still I was a little child), I would hear them and get chills in my body, I think the musical side in me, came from my late father. The reason I know classical music is my father. And the reason I try to succeed in everything I touch, is also due to the untimely death of my father.
- Where do you do most of your recording, production and mastering work? And do you outsource any or all of these processes, or do you do it all by yourself?
Madrow: In my bedroom, all by myself.
- What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your career or life so far?
Madrow: My disease, my romantic failures following it, and my father being the biggest loss of my life, we wanted to make up for gaps after years of not seeing each other and it was already too late, my lesson to you: be close to your parents and the ppl you love as you can. Everything should be suffice in life as long as possible.
- Could you tell us something about your current production setup, and what’s your favorite piece of hardware/software in the studio right now?
Madrow: FL STUDIO GANG HAHA
- What do you find most rewarding about what you do? And do you have a specific vision or goal set in your mind that you would like to achieve in the near future?
Madrow: Of course I have goals, almost like everyone else’s, only on a slightly different side. First of all, to defeat my disease, secondly, to start a family, to have children with a faithful wife by my side, to earn a decent living and leave a mark on the world.
- What’s your favorite motto, phrase or piece of advice, you try to live or inspire yourself by?
Madrow: ”people see the truth as they see fit. That’s what they call reality” As long as I live, and know who I am and what I am worth, and work on myself, everything else does not interest me in life, just move forward and succeed.
- In the time of social media, how do you handle criticism and/or naysayers in general? Is it something you pay attention to, or simply ignore?
Madrow: I’ve always had haters for some reason. Everybody can keep jealous, it all means nothing to me so I simply ignore.
- Finally, what’s your favorite pastime or hobby when you aren’t writing / producing / recording / playing etc.?
Madrow: Spending time with friends, family, I am one who is looking for thrills, that it can be used for both my good and my bad.
